What would the iPhone be without Google Maps?

Most useful location based applications on the iPhone integrate with Google Maps for their map data. Even a lot of the directory style applications we’ve reviewed use google as their resource of information. As much as I think that the iPhone is an EXCELLENT device and a wonderful platform, most of the useful data we are getting from these applications comes from Google! What does this say about Android? Can Google integrate with theirselves better than iPhone developers and bring much better applications than we’ve seen? I’m curious to see what everyone thinks. I was just reading a blog post on Googles blog with a video describing how a man uses Google Maps to find local information.
I’ve been using Google Maps exclusively for a while and until the 3G and the 2.0 revision of iPhone software really hadn’t relied on the iPhone much. With all of these great new applications it really is the perfect travel companion. See our reviews of Trapster, AroundMe and others. Will Android be better at fetching Google’s own data? Google has posted another blog post demonstrating some of the advanced mapping features Android will be able to do. MobileCrunch is also reporting on this. Plus this video on youtube:
We know the iPhone will be able to do StreetView in 2.2, but will Android do it better?
